Day 171 - Matrix Rays

This design is also featured in the DVD Beginner Free Motion Quilting Fillers, as well as the book From Daisy to Paisley. Click here to learn more about this beginner level book and DVD.

So far we've learned Matrix and Matrix Maze, but I got to thinking that we needed a new, more simplistic version of this design.

Introducing Matrix Rays!

Whoo Hooo! The Winter Wonderland Quilt Pattern is finally DONE!

I worked on this quilt from November to January to experiment with a new technique called Reverse Shadow Trapunto.

Once the quilt was completed, everyone loved it so much I decided to make a quilt pattern teaching not only how to make the quilt, but also how to do Reverse Shadow Trapunto!

You can click here to check out this pattern and complete kit at the Day Style Designs Quilt Shop.

Difficulty Level - Beginner. Straight lines and wiggly lines are really easy! If you haven't gotten the guts to try free motion quilting yet, definitely give this one a try.

Filler Design Type - Edge to Edge. This design is stitched from edge to edge so it would be a great choice for an open, uncomplicated area of your quilt.

Directional Texture - No direction. This design, when stitched on your quilt, will have a very flat, matte texture, a lot like the gridded cross hatching.

Suggestions for Use - Cross hatch stitching is typically used in very formal, wholecloth quilts. Why not shake things up a bit and stitch Matrix Rays instead? I think it would make for a wonderful change of pace!
